In Portugal, leadership in sport, coaching and federated sports practice is dominated by men. Among the federations there is only one president - Archery and only 16% of the vice presidents and 14% of the board members are women. The number of registered female coaches is only 10%, compared to 15% for high-performance male coaches. About a third of practitioners affiliated with federations are women.
To change the situation, most of the actions taken were aimed to increase the number of girls and women practicing sports (68%). 36% of federations have implemented actions to improve the situation of high-performance women athletes, 32% have taken steps to get more female coaches and 29% are working to increase the number of women in leadership positions.
